Venice is served by two airports, both offering easy access to the city and its environs. Venice Airport, also known as Venice Marco Polo Airport, is the main airport servicing Venice and is situated up the coast 13km from Venice. It is the fourth largest airport in Italy in terms of air traffic, but it has only one terminal and so can be very busy, particularly during the summer months. Venice Treviso Airport is a smaller airport, mainly used for charter flights and low-cost airlines. It is situated about 30km northwest of Venice.
The one thing you just don’t need if visiting Venice is a car. Being built on the water, Venice is Europe’s largest car-free zone. Cars and taxis can reach Rome Square on the edge of the city via the Ponte della Liberta (bridge), but from there on access is on foot or by water taxi only.
When visiting Venice it is particularly important to think about your travel plans in advance. Venice can be a very slow city to get around and the location of your hotel will determine your best route from Venice Marco Polo Airport. An airport transfer by Transfer Intelligence from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Venice city centre, will include a meet and greet service at the arrivals hall of Venice Marco Polo Airport. Your chauffeur will then take you by taxi to your water taxi terminal, when your airport transfer will transform into the most impressive start to a holiday that you can imagine – being whisked to your hotel by boat! It is also possible to book an ordinary taxi from the airport, but they can only take you as far as Rome Square and from there you will have to continue by foot or boat. Depending on where your hotel is, this can be a long walk, especially when you will be carrying luggage. Airport taxi transfers to Rome Square from Venice Marco Polo Airport take approximately 35 minutes. However, a water taxi is by far the most romantic and glamorous way to arrive in Venice!
Airport taxi transfers to Venice Rome Square from Venice Treviso airport take approximately 1 hour.
Whilst most people who fly into one of Venice’s airports are visiting the city itself, there are a number of other destinations and resorts you can reach from Venice’s airports.
Not sure whether you want a city break or a beach break? Venice has a number of beach holiday resorts within easy reach, so you can easily punctuate your sunbathing with a day trip to the city of canals and gondolas.
Beach holidays in Punta Sabbioni and Cavallino Treporti are perfect for those who are planning on incorporating city and sand on their holiday. There are great water links from the ferry terminal at Punta Sabbioni to Venice and, at the end of your day’s sightseeing, you can head back to the beach and escape the sightseeing masses. This peninsula’s star attractions are the beaches and you will find relaxed harbour towns and campsites perfect for holidaying families all along the peninsula.
At the start of the peninsula, further north up the Adriatic Riviera you will find the lively seaside resort of Jesolo. Jesolo is one of the most popular beaches in the whole of Italy. The beach stretches for 15km up the coast and is packed with parasols and sunloungers. Jesolo is a purpose-built beach resort famous for its discos and nightlife. The resort provides everything a holidaymaker could desire and there are water sports galore on offer as well as volley ball, horse riding, go-karting and cycling; all within a stones throw of your sunlounger.
Airport taxi transfers from Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport to Jesolo take less than an hour and one of our drivers will have you lolling in a sunlounger and soaking up the sunshine in no time!
Head slightly further up the coast from Jesolo and you come to Eraclea Mare. Eraclea Mare is a quieter resort than Jesolo and therefore perfect for families and couples looking to relax away from the all-singing, all-dancing nightlife of Jesolo. Eraclea Mare has a wide beach, more than 1km long, which is punctuated by dunes and backed by pinewood forest. At one end there is a large lagoon and Eraclea Mare is a resort that perfectly combines the beach, nature and a warm welcome. Airport taxi transfers from Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport to Eraclea Mare take around an hour.
The next major beach resort you come to after Eraclea Mare is Caorle. This is an ancient city with a cathedral dating back to 1038. The beach extends for kilometres and there is plenty of entertainment in and out of the water. Caorle’s large marina means that Caorle is also a popular holiday location for yachting enthusiasts. Airport taxi transfers from Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport to Caorle take around an hour.
Head further up the coast still and you come to Bibione. This popular spa town has long drawn visitors to its 11km-long stretch of golden sands and large lagoon. Airport taxi transfers from Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport to Bibione just over an hour.
Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport are also worth considering for access to the Italian Lakes, especially Lake Garda, where airport taxi transfer times from Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport take around 1.5-2 hours for the closest resorts on Lake Garda.
In the car-free city of Venice, especially, cars are only an expensive hindrance. Whether you’re heading to Venice or one of the surrounding resorts, pre-booking your airport taxi transfer will save you time and money. Take the stress and worry out of landing in a foreign airport by arranging our personal meet-and-greet service at the airport. Don’t worry about taxis not being available, being ‘ripped off’, not speaking the language or not having the correct currency.
When arriving in Venice Marco Polo Airport or Treviso Airport your private taxi, minibus or coach driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall holding a signboard displaying your party’s name. Please be aware these can be busy areas and you may need to take a good look at all the signboards before you find your name!
We strongly recommend booking your Venetian taxi transfer early as Venice Marco Polo especially is a busy airport and peak dates can become booked up, so take a wait off your mind and book your Italian taxi transfer today.
